TIPS AND TRICKS

Double Sided Leather Handbag Straps or Handles

This month’s tip comes from Garth Torgeson for his video tip on “How to make double sided leather handbag straps or handles.https://youtu.be/FW42AE-0sH8

I’m so very thankful Garth feels at home enough to do his live videos in my group, teaching us all about sewing with leather! It’s been a dream of mine for some time, to have someone teach us about leather! You can help him out by subscribing to his YouTube channel. Post in my group that you’ve subscribed to his YouTube channel for a random draw for a store credit! He’s only about 150 away from going live on YouTube! Let’s help get him there!

Double Sided Leather Garth

TIPS AND TRICKS

Tutorial by Marlys Frye-Sellmeyer
Hidden strap connectors

"I came up with this years ago. Found these older pictures in my computer and thought I'd watermark and share them. I believe in using what is effective, no need for an expensive hole punch and I like the chisel better as it makes for a tiny opening which *I* prefer." -- Marlys

*HIDDEN STRAP CONNECTOR*

Step 1. Cut the opening. I like this tool because the opening is minimal. (1 inch Chisel tool found at your local hardware store)
Step 2. Now it a good time to use your edge paint on the opening.
Step 3. Glue reinforcement strip onto leather.
Step 4. Mark or make sure you know where you want to stitch. I put my connector in, then make an indentation with it then mark it.
Step 5. Stitch forward and back a couple times for strong hold.
Step 6. Slide the connector into place.
Step 7. Pull through the opening
Step 8. Stitch across the top and add rivets or Chicago screws if so desired.

Thank you,
Garth and Marlys!
