Oh my goodness I’m late! Got busy trying to sort out taxes, then more surgery to keep my throat open so I can talk! Even though I'm not a talker, it is nice to be able to communicate at times. Happy late Valentine’s Day! Show some love to someone in need. Not just Valentine’s Day, but everyday. If we have anyone who is struggling to make ends meet by sewing bags, message me!

LuxeSew is in my store now!

New Products Have Shipped!!

Woohoo! LuxeBond, which is a decor bond alternative, and LuxeFuse, which is a Decovil Light alternative, and is my very own product! Pins and needles till they arrive but oh sew exciting! God continues to totally bless me and I’m so thankful!

LuxeFuse (Decovil light+ alternative) has shipped! Expected stateside March 6! LuxeFuse is my very own, created for “got interfacing” exclusively! How excited I am! It’s a great product, and less expensive than Decovil! A win win for all!

And LuxeBond, an alternative to decor bond without the wrinkling, shipped also. Same approximate stateside docking expected. I’ll be preparing two different sample packages once received. Keep watching!

LuxeSew is already available in my store! It’s a cross between foam and fleece. It's a sew-in substitute for either of them. It sews amazing and gives you the structure and feel that foam or fleece would. It adds structure with out all the bulk or the odd feel you get with sew-in foam where you can tell and feel that its separate from fabric.

Care Instructions for LuxeSew: Washable at 86F. Dry cleanable, moderate ironing, temp should not exceed 212F (per manufacturer). For heat press use no higher than silk setting, 8 seconds. For iron use no higher than wool setting for 6-10 seconds. Do not iron LuxeSew directly. Use fabric or a Teflon sheet to cover. To fuse LuxeSew use purple Elmers glue, zig zag the edges then press using recommended temps.

“This is my first time sharing anything in this group, but I thought I would share this custom set I just finished up last week. It’s definitely been my most popular items on Instagram. I used Wovenfuse in all of them, Decovil Light in the Tremont Crossbody, and Decovil Heavy in the Necessary Clutch Wallet and bottom of the H2O2Go.”

Fraying Zipper Tape

Wendy Morgan’s tip for fraying zipper tape: If you feel you’re wasting the zipper tape in the process of adding a pull, and the end of tape seems to be unraveling, “try using a lighter to singe or melt the ends before adding the pull. That prevents unraveling and makes the edge a bit stiffer so that it slides in easier. If it’s a material that won’t melt, add a tiny bit of fray check or super glue and let it dry well before attaching the pull.” Thank you Wendy! PM me for your $20 store credit!

Cubano Espresso Dark Chocolate Cake

Blue Ribbon Recipe

This chocolate cake is made to impress! The cake itself is tender and rich. Dark chocolate and espresso are perfectly paired in this cake. The coffee flavor is subtle. Alone, the cake is great but paired with the rich frosting you have a bakery-quality cake. The frosting is creamy and has a slight caramel flavor from the dulce de leche. It really adds richness to the frosting. This is actually an easy cake to make, but it does take some time. It would be perfect for a special occasion.— The Test Kitchen @kitchencrew

Ingredients

CAKE
  • 3 c sugar
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/8 c dark cocoa
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp espresso powder or instant coffee
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c milk
  • 3/4 c vegetable oil
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 c cold strong coffee
FROSTING
  • 1 c butter, softened
  • 15 oz canned dulce de leche
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp meringue powder
  • 2 Tbsp milk

For the cake:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, 1 1/2 tsp salt, baking soda, baking powder, and espresso powder.
  2. In a small bowl, combine eggs, oil, milk, and vanilla.
  3. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients and blend on high for 2 minutes.
  4. Whisk in cold coffee.
  5. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9" cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before removing cakes and cooling completely.
  7. For the frosting: In a mixing bowl, combine butter, 3/4 c. dulce de leche, shortening, salt, and vanilla. Blend until smooth.
  8. Add meringue powder and half of the powdered sugar. Blend on low until completely incorporated.
  9. Add remaining powdered sugar and blend completely. Add milk as needed to loosen.
  10. Turn mixer on high and whip for 4-5 minutes.
  11. With a cake leveler or knife removed the domed top of each cake. Spread frosting evenly between the layers and over the entire cake as a crumb coat. Refrigerate until set. Use remaining frosting to cover and decorate cake.
  12. Microwave remaining dulce de leche and drizzle over cake. Decorate with additional chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips.
